Prepare yourself for some disappointing news if you rely on Google Assistant for various tasks. Changes are underway, and as a result, Google Assistant is shedding numerous features that users have come to rely on.
From controlling audiobooks with your voice to managing a stopwatch, the once versatile Assistant is now becoming more limited in its capabilities. Communication, activity and fitness, as well as contact and information features, have all been affected.
However, there is still hope amidst these alterations. Stay tuned to uncover how these changes might impact your experience and discover alternative solutions that can fill the void left by the loss of these features.
What Features are loosing
Google Assistant is losing several features, which means there are some changes you need to be aware of.
First of all, you won’t be able to play and control audiobooks on Google Play Books with your voice anymore.
Additionally, setting or using media alarms, music alarms, or radio alarms on Google Assistant enabled devices is no longer possible.
You also won’t be able to access or manage your cookbook, transfer recipes, play instructional recipe videos, or show step-by-step recipes.
Managing a stopwatch on Smart Displays and Speakers is another feature that’s being removed.
Furthermore, you won’t be able to use your voice to call a device or broadcast a message to your Google Family Group. Sending emails, video messages, and audio messages with your voice is also no longer supported.
Rescheduling events in Google Calendar with your voice is also a functionality that has been removed.
Lastly, you won’t be able to use App Launcher in Google Assistant driving mode on Google Maps, schedule or hear previously scheduled Family Bell announcements, meditate with Calm, use voice control for activities on Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 devices, view sleep summaries on Google Smart Displays, see caller ID for calls made from speakers and Smart Displays, view ambient Commute to Work time estimates on Smart Displays, check personal travel itineraries by voice, ask for flight status, take certain actions by voice such as sending a payment, making a reservation, or posting to social media, and asking for information about contacts.
However, there are still some remaining functionalities, like using Google Assistant to search for recipes and videos across the web and YouTube, creating custom Routines for similar behaviour to media and alarm features, using voice control on Google Maps for reading messages, making calls, and controlling media, asking for meditation options with media providers such as YouTube, and asking Assistant to open installed apps.
