iPhone 6S will come in Apple Watch-like Rose Gold rather than Pink, lack sapphire, and have renamed Force Touch

Artwork by shoplemonde.de

Earlier this year, reports began to suggest that Apple would launch the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus in an additional color beyond the Space Gray, Silver, and Gold options that have been available in the popular iPhone 6 and iPhone 5s. Since then, there have been conflicting rumors regarding Apple’s color choice: some (including the Wall Street Journal) have claimed that the new iPhones would come in “pink,” while some analysts have referred to the color as “Rose Gold” (the discrepancy could be attributed to the similarity between colors). Today, our sources have confirmed that the new iPhones will actually come in a color that is unmistakably Rose Gold in both appearance and name…

This new Rose Gold color is a copper-like variation on the gold option originally introduced with the iPhone 5s in 2013. Like the standard gold iPhone, the front glass will be white, unlike the black front found on Space Gray models. The new color matches up with the two gold shades available for the Apple Watch, but the Rose Gold on the iPhone will obviously be made from anodized aluminum, rather than the 18-karat gold used in the $10,000+ Apple Watch Edition. Besides animated wallpapers on the Lock screen, the addition of Rose Gold will be the only tell-tale sign that the device is a next-generation model. We’ve also been told that although Apple considered utilizing a sapphire crystal cover for the iPhone screens, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will continue to use ionized glass, which Apple now refers to as “Ion-X glass.”

Besides the new casing color, lack of sapphire crystal on the front of the device, and new animated wallpapers, the new iPhones will include a Force Touch display, support for recording video in full 4K resolution, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and updated front camera with support for flash lighting, a faster A9 processor with improved graphics performance, and more efficient cellular chips made by Qualcomm. Force Touch’s underlying technology will be similar to the implementation in the new MacBooks and in the Apple Watch, but its functionality will focus more on short-cutting iOS features rather than on serving as an additional menu overlay for buttons. With that said, we are told that the pressure-sensitive screen may not be called Force Touch on the iPhone, a detail we’ll discuss more in the near future.

White Nexus 7 Now Available In 32GB Model In The US, UK And Japan For $269

Nexus7_White_Hero

Google has just released a white version of the Nexus 7 tablet, in white and packing 32GB of storage, available now for $269 on the Google Play Devices store, so long as you’re in the U.S., U.K. or Japan. There’s no LTE version and no 16GB model, unlike with the black Nexus 7, but if you’re looking for a color match tablet for your white Nexus 5 you’re now in luck.

The bezel retains the same black paint scheme, and there’s no change beyond the back panel color job in terms of performance or specs. The Nexus 7 is a fairly capable Android tablet, however, and most likely the best deal available at that particular price point depending on your needs. If you’re looking to grab one, it’s probably a good idea to pull the trigger on that order, quickly, since these are probably going to be in fairly limited supply at launch.

You do have a little more choice, however, as LG has just announced a Google Play edition of the G Pad Android tablet, which has an 8.3-inch screen and costs just a little more at $349.

‘iPhone 5S’, cheaper iPhone to come in multiple new colors, July announcement?

Screen Shot 2013-04-09 at 5.49.27 PM

According to Macotakara, new colors will be one of the more visible features of Apple’s next-generation iPhone models. According to a new report from the Japanese website, Apple’s iPhone 5 successor, already dubbed by some as the “iPhone 5S,” will come in three additional colors on top of the already existing black/slate and white/silver designs found on the iPhone 5.

It seems that it will have gossiped if the 5-color lineup of low-priced edition iPhone is carried out until now, but iPhone 5S may be 3 colors added to 2 colors of iPhone 5 1 color somehow. However, the informed sources did not tell about the kind of detailed color.

The site also claims that Apple’s already-rumored cheaper iPhone will come in five colors, but the report does not specify if this is five colors in addition to the black and white models or including the black and white options. Multiple analyst reports have previously claimed that Apple’s next iPhones will likely come in new colors.

Today’s report also does not specify what these new colors will be. It’s possible that the colors of the fifth-generation iPod touch, which already shares several design characteristics with the iPhone, could hold the answer. Apple sells the current iPod touch in yellow, pink, blue, silver, black, and in a Product(RED) variant.

The report also corroborates previous claims of an August release for the “iPhone 5S,” but the report adds that the announcement will come at some point in July. If the next iPhone is in fact an “S” update, we would expect other features to include a faster processor and an improved camera system. A fingerprint sensor has also been rumored based on Apple’s Authentec acquisition.

Macotakara has a mixed track record. The site previously correctly predicted some Apple device design details, but the site recently missed with claims of iPad updates in March.

Earlier today, we announced a giveaway with AnoStyle for a color-anodized iPhone 5.

LG’s 5-inch Optimus Vu shipping soon in white (in Korea, at least)

white lg optimus vu smartphone

Just under two months after LG's Optimus Vu got priced for the hometown market, in flies news that another hue will soon be on those very same shelves. The 5-inch, 4:3 ratio'd Android smartphone will soon hit South Korea in white, purportedly targeting the "younger" market -- you know, folks who like "cool" things (a translation for "refreshing," we're told). Folks can look for the device -- which should remain unchanged outside of the external color -- to hit SK Telecom as early as next week, but there's no word on when (or if) it'll spread to other markets.

LG's 5-inch Optimus Vu shipping soon in white (in Korea, at least) originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 24 Apr 2012 00:27:00 EDT. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

Sony’s Xperia P and U Are the Budget Little Brothers to That Gorgeous Xperia S [Android]

Given Sony already torpedoed its Xperia S back at CES, you can aaaaalmost forgive the now-lacking-in-Ericsson company for its lacklustre MWC showings.
