Cheaper 8GB iPad 2 may be unveiled alongside iPad 3

Apple may introduce a less expensive version of its popular iPad 2 tablet next week when it unveils its next-generation iPad 3. Citing unnamed sources from within Apple’s supply chain, DigiTimes on Thursday reported that the Cupertino, California-based technology giant will announce 16GB and 32GB versions of the iPad 3 during its press conference in San Francisco on March 7th. At the same time, Apple is expected to reveal a new cheaper version of its iPad 2 tablet that will only include 8GB of internal storage. Apple had previously been rumored to be planning to drop the price of the current iPad 2 by at least $100 following the launch of the iPad 3, which is expected to include a high-definition 2,048 x 1,536-pixel display, a quad-core A6 processor, embedded 4G LTE and a slightly thicker case.

Apple to unveil quad-core iPad 3 in New York next week, CNBC reports

Apple plans to unveil its next-generation iPad 3 with a quad-core processor and 4G LTE connectivity at a press conference in New York City next week, CNBC reports. The news organization did not offer any additional information in its brief report, which was posted on its Twitter account on Tuesday morning. Earlier reports suggested Apple would announce the new tablet at a press conference in San Francisco, in line with the company’s prior two iPad unveilings. The iPad 3 is expected to feature a quad-core Apple A6 processor, embedded 4G LTE connectivity and a high-resolution  2,048 x 1,536-pixel display.

UPDATE: Well-connected Apple watcher Jim Dalrymple of Loop Insight claims that CNBC is incorrect about the location of Apple’s press conference, which will not be held in New York.

Apple to unveil quad-core iPad 3 with 4G LTE on March 7th, report claims [updated]

Apple plans to unveil its third-generation iPad 3 tablet on March 7th according to a new report. Apple watcher iMore cites unnamed sources in claiming that the Cupertino-based tech giant’s next iPad will come equipped with a 2,048 x 1,536 Retina display and a quad-core A6 processor. The site also says Apple’s new tablet could come with embedded 4G LTE connectivity. The reported specs mirror countless earlier reports, however this latest claim comes alongside a date for Apple’s announcement: March 7th. The timing coincides with earlier reports claiming that Apple plans to unveil the iPad 3 in early March and iMore has a solid track record, so media invitations for Apple’s iPad press conference should be distributed soon.

UPDATE: Jim Dalrymple of The Loop has chimed in and confirmed that this is the date.

Rumors of a February Apple event debunked

Apple has no plans to hold a media event in February according to a new report. Loop Insight’s well-connected Jim Dalrymple on Thursday debunked part of a rumor that began circulating early Thursday morning. The original report claimed Apple had plans to hold an “unusual” media event some time this month that would not be product related, and then its highly anticipated iPad 3 would be unveiled at a separate event in early March. While Apple’s plans for the iPad 3 may or may not align with Macotakara’s report, Apple will not be holding any type of media event this month according to Dalrymple. “This is not going to happen, according to my sources,” he wrote in a blog post. “Apple will not hold an event in February, unusual or otherwise.”

Apple to unveil iPhone 5 at WWDC in June, report claims

Following the fall launch of its wildly popular iPhone 4S last year, Apple reportedly plans to return to its summer launch schedule and unveil the next-generation iPhone 5 during its annual Worldwide Developer Conference in June. DigiTimes relayed the claim, which cited a Daiwa Securities analyst when it first appeared in Chinese-language newspaper Commercial Times on Thursday. The continued use of glass-to-glass touch panel technology in the iPhone 5 is the only other detail noted in the report. Apple’s next-generation iPhone is expected to feature a completely redesigned case that utilizes a unibody aluminum architecture much like Apple’s iPad. The handset will also supposedly feature a larger display that measures approximately 4 inches diagonally. BGR reported in December that the new iPhone would feature a new aluminum case and a redesigned antenna system, but our source indicated that a launch would not take place until the fall.

iPad 3 unveiling reportedly scheduled for early February

Apple is reportedly planning an event in early February to unveil its next-generation iPad tablet. Citing unnamed sources from within Apple’s supply chain, Japanese blog Macotakara claims Apple will take the wraps off its iPad 3 early next month alongside the next major release of its mobile operating system, iOS 5.1. Apple released the third version of its iOS 5.1 beta software to developers last week, though the timeline for a public release is unknown at this point. The Cupertino, California-based company is expected to release its third-generation iPad tablet in March, which is rumored to feature a slightly thicker case, a 2,048 by 1,536-pixel HD display and twice the battery life as the current iPad 2. Apple is also expected to continue selling an iPad 2 model at a discounted price following the release of its new iPad 3.

Samsung and Google finally took the wraps off their latest joint effort, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, and it’s a screamer. The phone is just under 7mm at its slimmest point, and it runs Google’s brand new version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0. The phone’s key specifications match up exactly with what we’ve reported previously, including a dual-core 1.2GHz CPU, a 5-megapixel camera with enhancements, a 4.65-inch 1280 x 720-pixel Super AMOLED HD display with curved glass face, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage, NFC, a 1,750 mAh battery and plenty more. The phone will initially be available as an exclusive on Verizon Wireless in the U.S., 4G LTE in tow, and in other parts of the world it will feature HSPA+ in a pentaband configuration.. The handset will launch in November, and you can check out a video feed from the Galaxy Nexus unveiling event on Google’s Android channel. With Motorola’s incredible DROID RAZR announcement earlier, we have to ask… Motorola DROID RAZR or Samsung Galaxy Nexus?
