Monster Storm Throws Thousands of Tons of Cargo Into the Sea

Even a massive cargo ship can sometimes be no match for the massive storms brewing on the world’s oceans. But when you add hundreds of thousands of tons of cargo into the mix, the last place you want to find yourself is on deck when cargo starts spilling overboard.

Watch a Cruise Ship Get Built

Watch a Cruise Ship Get Built

Cruise ships are basically giant floating cities. How do you build a giant floating city? Well, it’s pretty much like playing with Lego bricks. This time lapse shows the construction process of building AIDA Cruises’ new flagship in Nagasaki: the AIDAprima. The AIDAprima can hold up to 3,300 passengers with 900 crew members and is nearly 1,000 feet long. The ship cost $645 million to build and seeing it get put together almost makes it worth the sticker price.

Watch a Cruise Ship Crash Into the Side of the Dock

Watch a Cruise Ship Crash Into the Side of the Dock

When you’re as big as this cruise ship—and it’s really big at 964 feet long, 105 feet wide, and 91,000 tons—it can be hard to stop. So you have to make sure you slow down in time or you’ll destroy things because once again, you’re a really big ship. This cruise ship, the Celebrity Infinity, didn’t stop in time and slammed into the side of a dock at Ketchikan Harbor in Alaska, downing part of the barge and busting up a few mooring dolphins.

See the World From a Container Ship in This Surprisingly Lovely Video

See the World From a Container Ship in This Surprisingly Lovely Video

Climbing aboard a container ship isn’t exactly the most glamorous way to travel, but when the footage is condensed into a time lapse—oh my, is it stunning. It’s especially neat to see the different layers of the sky dance overhead, but the coolest part is just being around all that blue. It really makes you feel the vastness of the world.

Giant Yacht Carrier Sinks into the Water to Swallow Ships and Then Rises to Transport Them

Giant Yacht Carrier Sinks into the Water to Swallow Ships and Then Rises to Transport Them

This is fun. Watch as this yacht carrier, the Super Servant 4, lowers its deck into the water so that tiny yachts and normal yachts and super yachts can all float and steer themselves on the water into their water parking spaces. And then watch the Super Servant 4 rise up and bring all the yachts out of the water. It’s a moving dock that transforms into a parking lot ship so that it can transport yachts to whichever other marina they need to get to.

Check Out All the Largest Flying Boats in History

There really should be more flying boats flying around these days. They’re comically large and equipped with so many engines and their ability to take off and land on water is just so cool, from floating around to flying in no time. Watch a Boat Crash Straight into the Dock

Watch a Boat Crash Straight into the Dock

It’s like when you’re parking your car in a parking lot and your tire bumps the curb because you went a little too far, only it’s a giant boat that’s gone too far and the curb is a dock with a bunch of people walking around. So yeah, not exactly the same. A lot, a lot worse.

Drones Delivering to Ships Is Now a Thing

Transferring stuff to ships is a surprisingly ticklish business: coming in to dock is expensive, and trying to transfer supplies from a small barge to a 100-foot container ship is equally not fun. But dropping off small, important items by drone? Sounds about right.

Watch a Huge 100-Foot Wave Crash Down and Smash a Ship
