Apple expands same-day delivery partnership w/ Postmates to New York

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 5.42.42 PM
After initially launching same-day delivery in partnership with Postmates earlier this year in San Francisco, Apple today has revealed that the capability is expanding to more locations. Users today have started noticing that same-day delivery from Apple’s online store and Apple Store app is now supported in New York.

First noticed by MacRumors, same-day delivery via courier is now available in most of Manhattan, with it promising 2-hour delivery in 37 of 43 tested ZIP codes. The capability is also available in northern neighborhoods like Inwood and Washington Heights with today’s expansion.

The option for “courier delivery” is available via both Apple’s online store and the Apple Store app. The option costs an additional flat-rate of $19. Apple guarantees that with courier delivery, the item will arrive same-day, within two-hours, as long as the order is placed during normal business hours (by 5PM local time).

Postmates-NYC-Apple-Store

Today’s expansion to New York City seems to imply that Apple’s partnership with Postmates has been going smoothly so far. Apple’s support of Postmates delivery, however, is still extremely limited in comparison with the scope of Postmates’ wide availability with other retailers. Postmates is currently supported in more than 20 states around the U.S., so provided its partnership with Apple continues to run smoothly, there is definitely room for expansion on Apple’s end.

Apple Watch release date for New Zealand scheduled for July 31st

Apple-Watch-New-Zealand

After its initial launch in nine countries in April, followed by seven more late last month and a handful of other countries launching later this week, Apple Watch will arrive for customers in New Zealand for the first time on July 31st. Apple has quietly made the announcement on an updated product page within its Apple Store iOS app, as pictured above.

The launch in New Zealand will follow a few countries going live later this week on July 17th, including the Netherlands, Sweden and Thailand. The latest Apple Watch launch saw the device released in Italy, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland and Taiwan last month, while the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong and Japan had access to the device at launch back in April.

Apple hasn’t made an official announcement for what will be the fourth wave of Apple Watch launch countries, and it’s unclear at this point if others will join New Zealand on the 31st (but we’re on the lookout for others).

Customers in New Zealand will be able to purchase Apple Watch starting 7:01am local time on July 31.

Bose products now back up for sale on Apple Online Store after nearly two months

Bose Apple Online Store

A few months ago, it was reported that Bose headphones and speakers were no longer available from the Apple Online Store. The move was short-lived, however, as Apple has added Bose products back to its online storefront this evening, including its popular Bluetooth-enabled SoundLink and SoundLink Mini wireless speakers and QuietComfort acoustic noise cancelling headphones.

The return of Bose products to the Apple Online Store follows our confirmation this morning that Bose speakers will be returning to Apple retail stores following their removal from physical shelves earlier this year. It is unknown why Apple removed Bose products from its online and brick-and-mortar retail stores in the first place, although an NFL ban on wearing Beats and recent patent lawsuit between Beats-Bose are possible contributing factors.

How to watch live streams of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics on your iPhone & iPad

BBC-Sochi-2014-olympics CBC-Sochi NBC-Olympics-app Olympics-Sochi-2014-app

With the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics officially kicking off with opening ceremonies today at 11 AM EST/ 2 PM PST, you’re probably wondering how to watch live streams and keep up to date with events from your iPhone, iPad, and Mac. NBC will be delaying the live TV broadcast of the opening ceremonies until 7:30pm tonight in the US, but you can still catch everything live on your Mac or mobile device using the apps below:

NBC: In the U.S. your only official option for streaming coverage of the games is through NBC. The network’s website will be streaming competition coverage from all 15 sports and you can also get live streams on your iPhone or iPad through the NBC Sports Live Extra app.

Unfortunately you will have to sign in to a cable provider in order to access the majority of streams through NBC. That won’t work for cable cutters of course, but there is just about every cable provider supported including Xfinity, Time Warner Cable, Direct TV, Dish, Verizon FIOS, COX, Charter, AT&T U-verse, Optimum, Suddenlink, Mediacom, Cable One, WoW!, Brighthouse, RCN, and many more. NBC will, however, offer a 30-minute temporary pass (and 5 minutes a day after) for those without a cable subscription.

Watch every event LIVE at the Sochi Olympics: more than 1,000 hours, including all 15 sports, and the awarding of all 98 medal events. Plus, watch exclusive event rewinds and short-form on-demand highlights.

CBC-Olympics-SochiCBC: For Canadians, the games will be available through CBC and fortunately won’t require users to sign in to a cable provider to access coverage. The network will have 12 live video feeds of events (up to four at once!) that you can access on both your Mac and iOS devices. You can grab the live streams starting with today’s opening ceremonies through the CBC website or the CBC Olympics iOS app.

Of course cable cutters unable to access the official NBC streams in the US could always use a VPN service like Hola to access the free streams from Canada or other countries.

BBC: In the UK, the official provider of live streams and coverage for Sochi 2014 is the BBC. The network will be live streaming over 650 hours of coverage via six HD streams that can be accessed through the BBC Olympics website or the BBC Sport iOS app for users in the UK. Coverage will officially kick off later today with the opening ceremonies at 11 AM ET.  Again, for users in the U.S. without a cable subscription to access NBC feeds, using a VPN service could allow you to access the free BBC streams from the UK.

TenPlay (Australia): In Australia, official coverage of the games will be available through TenPlay on the network’s website as well as through a special Sochi 2014 on Ten app it has on the App Store.

Schedule and Results: You can access a full schedule and results from events on the Sochi 2014 website here, but you can also get notifications and up dates through many of the popular sports apps for iOS like NBC Olympics Highlights and Results, Yahoo Sports, ESPN SportsCenter, and the official Olympics app by the International Olympic Committee.

Other countries: Streaming rights for the rest of Europe and other countries have been split up this year between a long list of networks. We can’t list them all, but you can find out what network is providing official coverage in your country here.
