...just in time for photos of Snooki's kid to be whisked around the world at 4G speeds.
(P.S. - Northern Vermont, Long Island, Cape Cod, Delaware beach communities and the gorgeous Outer Banks of North Carolina are going live soon as well, sans drama.)

Serving jetsetters at LAX just wasn't enough for Xcom Global. Engadget's personal favorite when it comes to snagging international data before leaving the States is now opening up shop in the Big Apple -- a wise move for increasing its presence in a market where loads of humans are doing business in nations other than the United States. Xcom's calling its new venue a "satellite customer service center," enabling flyers to swing by before they depart JFK (or LGA, we guess) and pick up a global MiFi. Rather than being positioned within an airport, this one's located near Grand Central Station at the offices of Amnet New York on Madison Avenue, and in case you've forgotten, $12.95 per day (and up) can snag you a wireless data device capable of connecting in some 195 countries. Oh, and you can return the device to the same store or via your carrier of choice. Still trying to wrap your head around it? Have a look at our review.

it was coming, and for the second year in a row, Apple has disrupted the natural flow of CES
by announcing an event of its own
. Granted, this one -- slated to be held January 19th at the Guggenheim Museum -- is packing far fewer implications than the Verizon iPhone event
of 2011, but suffice it to say, anyone who enjoys "learning" should be tuning in later this month. If you'll recall, it was reported by TechCrunch
that the event would be entirely related to publishing, with no new hardware on tap; Fox's own Clayton Morris followed up
to say that it'd have something to do with iTunes. We're guessing it'll link somehow to iTunes U, and considering that Apple hasn't made a major public push into the land of EDU since the eMac
, perhaps it's time that the company got things like Reading Rainbow
into the hands of dazed and confused grade-schoolers everywhere.

We reported on the construction progress of the future Apple grand Central store earlier this month and have since received further information and pictures from our trip to the location and from the tech blog, Techfootnote. Both sources grabbed shots of the upcoming Grand Central Apple Store as it was actively being worked on Friday, November 18th. There were dozens of construction workers and corporate reps putting the final touches on the future store. In the images you can see what looks to be several large hanging boards. The boards are hung on large hooks, which would make it easy to pull off and reveal what is behind the boards.
9to5Mac has heard that Apple will officially announce the opening of the Grand Central Apple store this Tuesday and presumably pull the black boards to reveal the announcement. This store garners extra special attention because it will be Apple’s largest in the world by square footage and resides in a building where 750,000 people pass daily and over 1,000,000 people during the holidays. Check out our previously posted spyshots of the location for a sneak peak of the store.
The Grand Central Apple Store will have little over 300 employees, which are currently training in other local NY Apple stores. All Apple retail employees will be attending a holiday-focused (policies / loss prevention) meeting tonight.
From what we have now heard, Apple will be filling the store with stock and applying the finishing touches this week putting the the actual opening of the store on Black Friday or shortly thereafter. The goal all along has been to get the store open for the holiday shopping and to make a big splash with Apple’s new crown jewel of retail.

Though New York City largely managed to avoid the wrath of Hurricane Irene
, the windy bitch still managed to strip the soul of the city that never sleeps. Watch it. It was like a post-apocalyptic city evaporated of life and people. More »
Yes, the megaphone was attached to a podium that said "Say Something Nice", but you half expect some New York jackass to hijack the megaphone and curse everybody out (maybe it was edited out!). But seriously, watching this will brighten up your Monday. More »
Photographer Stephen Wilkes captured New York, in day and night, in a single photograph. Well, it's actually multiple photographs taken over a 15-hour period but still, the resulting image captures all sides of this glorious city. More »
