This photograph taken on October 27, 2011 shows Tan Min-Liang, the Singaporean co-founder and chief executive officer of Razer, poses at the company's research and development centre in Singapore. Razer is a cult brand among hardcore gamers worldwide who lust after high-performance devices such as mice, keyboards, headsets and joysticks. (Photo: ROSLAN RAHMAN/AFP/Getty Images) The first OSVR headset made its debut at last year’s CES. The wearable wasn’t aimed at Oculus or HTC – nor were its creators looking to take on Samsung’s low cost Gear VR. Rather, the prototype represented the first step in a multi-company effort to build a new, non-proprietary paradigm in the burgeoning world of virtual reality. And Min Liang-Tan helped lead the charge. Read More

Google’s new Nexus devices tipped to receive a new fingerprint sensor-based gesture

Google Nexus 2016 Rumors HTC
Google’s new Nexus devices are supposed to arrive at some point after Android 7.0 Nougat is released but don’t expect them in stores quite yet. However, more and more reports reveal interesting details about the two devices, from hardware to software features. The HTC-made Sailfish and Marlin are going to have a brand new launcher, that does away with two key elements of the usual vanilla Android user interface, a report said on Tuesday. However, that’s not the only change in store for the devices, which are supposedly going to offer users a new fingerprint sensor-related gesture.

Google’s 2016 Nexus smartphones are probably going to be flagship killers

Google Nexus 2016 Snapdragon 821
Google is widely expected to launch two new Nexus smartphones in the coming months, and unlike last year, the 2016 HTC-made devices will be identical when it comes to hardware. What’s more interesting is that both Sailfish and Marlin should be faster than any of the existing flagship Android devices, which isn’t something you could always say about a Nexus-branded smartphone. This year, however, the new Nexus handsets might be real flagship killers, to paraphrase the former motto of a certain smartphone maker, and could offer a better overall performance than the Galaxy S7, HTC 10, LG G5, and most other 2016 flagships from competing phone makers.

HTC’s $179 unlocked handset is hitting the States this month

HTC Desire 530 The HTC Desire 530 is $179 unlocked. That’s the main thing you need to know about it. Everything else about the handset is pretty underwhelming at best – and reviewers haven’t exactly been heaping praise on the thing. But it’s $179 unlocked and it’s arriving this month in the States. The company debuted the phone at Mobile World Congress back in February, leading… Read More

These year’s new Nexus phones could be 2016’s most powerful handsets

2016 Google Nexus HTC Snapdragon 821
A new report last week stated that HTC is working on two new Nexus smartphones that will be released this year. It's OK if you missed it — the report hit while most of the tech world was checking out Apple’s new software goodies. The rumor echoed earlier reports that claimed HTC might make two Nexus devices in 2016, and the new report said that both of these Nexus phones will sport slightly improved processors.

Good VR is great — and bad VR is abysmal

riftred I don’t want VR to be boring. It’s strange to think that something so futuristic and promising, something we’ve looked forward to for decades, could be boring, but I can’t deny it, since I’ve experienced it myself. The fact is that with hundreds of companies joining the VR gold rush, we’re going to be panning a lot of silt for every grain of gold. Read More

HTC’s Mixed Reality demo shows onlookers what it’s like to experience VR

HTC Mixed Reality In these earliest days of commercial viability, virtual reality is running up against the same wall as so many technologies before it: how does a company translate it for the majority of consumers who won’t be able to demo it in the wild? HTC’s mixed reality is an interesting sort of work around, adding augmented reality to the equation, in order to offer a sort of voyeuristic… Read More
