HTC’s new Hail Mary: Two U phones with novel ideas

HTC U Ultra and U Play Release Date

HTC made two of the best smartphones money can buy, but the company can’t talk about them. The Pixel and Pixel XL are Google’s phones even if they’re actually made by HTC. HTC just unveiled one of the best Android phones of 2016, but you can’t have one

HTC 10 Evo Release Date

First, the good news: HTC just unveiled what is easily one of the best new Android smartphones of 2016. The handset, dubbed the HTC 10 evo, features a large 5.5-inch Super LCD 3 display with quad HD resolution and a pixel density of 534 ppi. It sports a 2.0 GHz Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of storage plus microSDXC support. It ships with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, and it packs HTC's latest 16-megapixel camera with phase detection auto focus and optical image stabilization. It's also the first ever all-metal Android phone to feature IP57 water- and dust-resistance.

So, what's the bad news? The odds are pretty good that you'll never be able to buy one.

TO GO WITH: Asia-technology-computer-gaming,FOCUS by Philip Lim
This photograph taken on October 27, 2011 shows Tan Min-Liang, the Singaporean co-founder and chief executive officer of Razer, poses at the company's research and development centre in Singapore. Razer is a cult brand among hardcore gamers worldwide who lust after high-performance devices such as mice, keyboards, headsets and joysticks. (Photo: ROSLAN RAHMAN/AFP/Getty Images) The first OSVR headset made its debut at last year’s CES. The wearable wasn’t aimed at Oculus or HTC – nor were its creators looking to take on Samsung’s low cost Gear VR.
