I wonder who these new Ikea wireless charging ads are aimed at

iPhone 8 Wireless Charging

Ikea a few years ago started selling furniture that contains circuitry that charges devices wirelessly. That’s not something new. But now that the iPhone 8 and iPhone X are going to be the first Apple products to support wireless charging out of the box, Ikea is launching a brand new campaign to promote its products. The new advertising initiative targets Apple fans directly, and it’s hilarious.

The iPhone 8’s glass back comes at a hefty price

iPhone 8 Design

Apple's newly released iPhone 8 may look just like Apple's last few iPhones, but the device features an important material design change on the back. Specifically, the iPhone 8 features a glass black to facilitate wireless charging, a welcome feature to be sure but one which may make the iPhone 8 more prone to experiencing damage when dropped.

Behind-the-scenes video shows how Apple gets ready for iPhone day

iPhone 8 release date

Today is Christmas for gadget nerds, better known as iPhone day. It's the magical time of year when Tim Cook and Jony Ive finally ship whatever they've been working on for the last 12 months to an ever-willing crowd of consumers. It's a massive exercise in logistics, and to understand what makes the Apple machine "just work," Buzzfeed sent a reporter and a camera team into the belly of the capitalist beast.

Tim Cook is ‘thrilled’ with iPhone 8 sales, says Apple Watch LTE fix is coming

iPhone 8 Sales

Apple last year decided to break a multi-year tradition when it opted not to release opening weekend sales figures for the iPhone 7. Similarly, there's a slim-to-none chance that Apple will be forthcoming with precise iPhone 8 sales figures this year. All the more so given that early iPhone 8 sales may be uncharacteristically low due to the impending launch of the highly anticipated iPhone X.

iPhone 8 Plus Vs iPhone 7 Plus

Brace yourself, folks. With Apple's iPhone 8 models arriving in stores today, we're about to be bombarded with an avalanche of video tests designed to showcase just how fast and durable Apple's next-gen iPhone 8 models truly are. New drop test video shows how tough the iPhone 8 Plus is

iPhone 8 vs iPhone 7

Like clockwork, the first iPhone 8 drop test video has already hit the web, just a few short hours after Apple's next-gen smartphone hit store shelves. Put together by the folks over at EverythingApplePro, the video compares how well the iPhone 8 Plus withstands drops to the ground compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 7 Plus.  While most iPhone torture tests are completely unnecessary, with this video of an iPhone 7 meeting molten aluminum being a prime example, drop tests are usually worth paying attention to because accidental drops is how most people tend to damage their device.

Is Apple deliberately slowing down cellular data on some iPhone 8 models?

iPhone 8 models: AT&T vs Verizon

When the iPhone 8 was officially announced, Apple made a big deal about the phone being "built for wireless." That isn't really true, as we've said before -- the iPhone 8 has the slow version of wireless charging, and the slow version of LTE data. Apple didn't mention gigabit LTE, or any of the wireless carriers' new LTE technology, during its presentation. But that doesn't mean the iPhone 8's hardware isn't capable of supporting it.

iFixit found during their teardown of the new iPhone 8 that the phone -- or at least the variant sold in Australia -- is packing a Qualcomm X16 modem. That's the same radio chip as found in all this year's top Android phones, and it's capable -- with the right software -- of gigabit LTE speeds.
