Experts say it’s ‘highly unlikely’ Apple will build 3 manufacturing plants in the U.S.

Foxconn yesterday officially confirmed its plans to build a $10 billion display manufacturing plant in Wisconsin, a move that had been rumored for a long time. Just a few days before that, however, President Trump touted that Apple had promised him 3 “big, big, big” factories in the United States, yet Foxconn’s new Wisconsin factory won’t be for Apple displays, but rather Sharp.

Some have speculated that Trump may have gotten Foxconn confused with Apple, and a new report from The Wall Street Journal outlines just how unlikely it is for Apple to expand to the United States so quickly…

Apple officially receives FCC license to test next-generation 5G mobile data

Apple has recently received official approval from the FCC to test 5G wireless broadband. The company was granted permission in the form of an experimental license to test millimeter wave technology at two locations near its offices in Milpitas, California (via DSL Reports).

Apple is working on super-fast 5G for next-generation iPhones

Apple 5G on the iPhone 8

Apple has received a permit to test millimeter-wave 5G technology in two locations near the company's HQ in California. Apple isn't the first to trial 5G -- it joins a growing list of telecoms and device manufacturers dabbling in next-gen communications -- but there is only one iPhone manufacturer.

Apple applied for the experimental permit earlier this year, with the stated goal of "to assess cellular link performance in direct path and multipath environments between base station transmitters and receivers using this spectrum. These assessments will provide engineering data relevant to the operation of devices on wireless carriers’ future 5G networks."
