Google Chromecast Review: Smaller, Faster, and Still Totally Worth It

Two years ago the Google god in the sky gave unto us a $35 dollar media-streaming dongle, and lo, it was good . Pretty good anyway, and it got better with software updates, but it still has lagging tendencies. Well, it’s 2015 baby, so what’s the new Chromecast got? Less lag! And... that’s pretty much it. But honestly, that might be enough.

Today I Kayak From Cuba to Florida (UPDATE: MADE IT)

A couple months ago a friend of mine approached me with something that sounded insane. Did I want to kayak from Cuba to Florida? I hadn’t paddled in a year, it was just a month away, and I’d just broken a rib. It was almost certainly a very, very stupid idea. So I said yes.

TomTom Is Bringing Tunes to Its Newest Fitness Watches

TomTom’s first running watch was a great first step two years ago. Last year it got even better , with an integrated heart rate monitor. For this year’s watches, TomTom is adding full activity tracker capabilities and the ability to stream music to Bluetooth headphones, all for a pretty reasonable price.

Connected States:  Living Out of a Van in the Badlands

There’s something magical about traveling alone. Yes, there are more risks involved, but it pays dividends in nimbleness. Eventually, though, you get tired of talking to yourself (or your GoPro), you have trouble following your audiobook, and you’ve been through all of your pre-downloaded music. Having an ally on your mission allows you push harder, try dicier things, and keep moving even when you break a rib while driving.

How to Make the Best Limoncello You’ve Ever Had

Limoncello! That sweet, tart, and refreshingItalian after-dinner digestif can be a wonderful thing. But, typically, when you go for the store-bought stuff it’s cloyingly sweet, and doesn’t have any of that fresh zip to it. Here’s the good news: It’s simple to make at home and customize it to your own taste, giving you the perfect balance of sweet, sour boozeroo.

How LG’s Garbage Phone Evolved Into My Favorite Ever

Two years ago I wrote one of the harshest reviews that has ever appeared on Gizmodo. It was for the LG G2 , which was supposed to be the company’s flagship Android phone for the year, but it was just bad. I wasn’t shy about saying so. I was so unshy, in fact, that LG tried to get me fired for it.

DJI Phantom 3 Review: Stunning Video + Easier Controls = Hell Yes

DJI’s Phantom 2 Vision+ really upped the ante for a consumer-friendly all-in-one aerial photography drone. It shot solid 1080p video, and its built-in stabilized camera kept the shot super smooth. Well, the Phantom 3 is here—and while it isn’t perfect, it blows the doors off the 2 Vision+. It’s a mighty sweet birdie.

How Patrón Uses Big-Ass Rocks to Make Delicious Tequila

When Patrón invited me to their distillery in Mexico last month, I was hesitant. I didn’t think I’d see anything new. I’d heard the company talk up its centuries-old “tahona” method of production, but wrote it off as yet another brand trying to get in on the craft distilling trend. But I agreed to go anyway. Because tequila.

The High-End Magic Behind the Best Vodka I’ve Ever Had

I do not like vodka. Let me start there. In fact I’ve previously written that a vodka soda is the world’s most dangerous drink because you will fall asleep and choke while drinking it’s so fucking boring. So, when I walked into the Woody Creek vodka distillery near Aspen, Colorado, it was not without a great deal of skepticism.
