Smartphone gaming addict goes blind after playing for 24 hours straight

smartphone addiction

If you think an hour-long Candy Crush session or occasionally dropping $10 to refill your stash of Pokemon Go pokeballs is evidence that you have a smartphone "addiction," you've got nothing on Wu Xiaojing, a 21-year-old woman who lives in northwest China's Shaanxi province. Xiaojing (an apparently fake name she used to hide her identity) is a real smartphone addict, and by "real" I mean she ended up in the hospital after a 24-hour smartphone gaming marathon left her blind in one eye.

Xiaojing, who says smartphone gaming is her only hobby, spends her nights and weekends with her eyes glued to small screen mobile games, regularly playing them for many hours on end and sacrificing sleep — and apparently her health — in the process.

This ‘tactical SUV’ has bulletproof armor, thermal night vision, and a 500-horsepower V8

rezvani tank

Rezvani isn't a carmaker, at least not in the traditional sense, choosing to produce highly modified and customized versions of existing vehicle platforms rather than start from scratch, but that doesn't make its newest creation, a 500-horsepower "tactical" SUV called simply the Tank, any less impressive.

The Rezvani Tank looks like something you'd expect to see on the war-torn streets of a global hotspot, but this incredibly powerful vehicle is built with your suburban commute in mind. That said, it's also just as tough as it looks, boasting optional ballistic armor and even a thermal night vision system, just in case the drive home from work becomes apocalyptic.

We’re probably going to have to wait until 2019 for ‘Game of Thrones’ season 8

Game of Thrones season 8 release date

If you were still holding out hope that HBO would be ready to release the eighth season of Game of Thrones by next summer, you might want to give us on that dream. Speaking with TV Guide this week, actor Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos Seaworth, aka the Onion Knight) confirmed that the final season will take longer than any other season to shoot, despite the fact that it will only consist of six episodes.

"[The episodes are] definitely going to be bigger and what I hear is longer," said Cunningham. "We're filming right up until the summer. When you think about it, up until last season we'd have six months to do ten episodes, so we're [doing] way more than that for six episodes. So that obviously will translate into longer episodes."

Opinion: Apple needs to include a fast charging power adapter with the iPhone

iPhone 7 is still the most popular smartphone, despite sluggish sales

iPhone 7 vs Galaxy S8

The iPhone 7 and 7 Plus delivered a one-two punch for Apple as the top-selling smartphones of 2017 so far, despite sluggish device sales overall. Apple's top smartphones handily beat out Samsung's best, but sales weren't as good as the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus that came before, according to a new report from IHS Markit.

The top-place finish hides some worrying numbers for Apple. Overall sales were down compared to the iPhone that came before, and market share for the smaller iPhone continues to plummet.

Benchmarks contradict ‘Apple slowed down my iPhone’ claims

It’s a refrain we all hear every year around September: “I swear, whenever they release a new iPhone, Apple makes all the old ones run worse to make you upgrade.” But thousands of performance tests conducted over the years by Futuremark users show that the conspiracy is mostly in your mind.
