Boston Red Sox now said to have used a Fitbit in elaborate sign stealing ploy, not Apple Watch

Earlier this month, a detailed report described an elaborate, Apple Watch-based scheme set up by the Boston Red Sox to steal signs in numerous games. Now, however, Boston Globe reporter Nick Cafardo says it wasn’t actually an Apple Watch, but rather a Fitbit device…

Netflix sent a ‘Stranger Things’ bar the best cease-and-desist letter you’ve ever seen

Stranger Things Bar

As far as cease and desist letters go, you'll be hard pressed to find one more charming than the one Netflix recently sent to the purveyors of a pop-up Stranger Things themed bar located in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago.

The bar originally sprang up in late August and, rather appropriately, was called "The Upside Down." As you would imagine, the Stranger Things influence in the bar is ubiquitous and impossible to miss. The location even features a well-crafted replica of the iconic lit-up alphabet wall we saw during the show's first season.

The Nuada smart glove gives your hand bionic powers

In the future, said Andy Warhol, everyone will be bionic for fifteen minutes. I’m paraphrasing, but it looks like a Portuguese company called Nuada is about to give us that opportunity. Created by Filipe Quinaz and Vitor Crespo, the seed-funded company pitched on our Disrupt stage and showed us one of the coolest pieces of hardware I’ve seen in a long time. The Nuada is a smart glove. Read More

The Pirate Bay is hijacking your browser to mine cryptocurrency

pirate bay

I'm not one to pass judgement on anyone who illegally downloads movies, TV shows, or music, but if you're visiting a site in order to find media to steal, you probably shouldn't be surprised that the site you're using is stealing something from you, too. That seems to be the case with The Pirate Bay, which has reportedly added coin miner software to its website which hijacks some of your device's CPU muscle.

Watch industrial robots play traditional instruments

Robots are stealing jobs, the narrative says and according to this video, robots are stealing the arts too. The video shows several industrial robotic arms playing the piano, guitar, drums and a keyboard. Through some stellar music production, it sounds amazing too. Nigel Stanford is the artist behind the project and also posted a video that shows some behind-the-scenes clips — basically… Read More

Elon Musk plays coy as rumors of a Tesla pickup truck heat up

Tesla Pickup Truck

The evolution of Tesla over the past few years has been nothing short of remarkable. Just a few years ago, the Model S was the only Tesla vehicle available for purchase. These days, Tesla's lineup is far more diverse thanks to the Model X and the more recent Model 3. Despite all that Tesla has accomplished over the past few years, the company has no intention of slowing down. Quite the contrary, Elon Musk has been pretty blunt about Tesla's plans to further expand its vehicular lineup.

Here’s why new iPhones are always supply-constrained at launch

Whether it’s the upcoming iPhone X, Nintendo’s new Switch console or even Google’s Pixel last year, shortages of new electronics have become the norm. While the delay of the iPhone X launch past the iPhone 8 adds even more disappointment for consumers on top of expected constrained supply, you have to wonder, is it really just component shortages causing the issue? A recent piece in The Wall Street Journal takes a closer look at why there are always iPhone shortages and why it’s particularly worse this year.

Your Nintendo Switch is apparently hiding an NES emulator and a copy of ‘Golf’

Nintendo Switch: NES emulator

Nintendo's failure to commit to bringing the Virtual Console to the Switch has been one of the few dark clouds hanging over an otherwise smooth launch of a new console. As popular as the service was on the Wii, Wii U and 3DS, it seems like it would be a no-brainer to bring it to the Switch as well, but Nintendo has yet to even confirm its existence... which is exactly why a surprising new development has been making headlines.
