Solar eclipse viewers spark Oregon traffic nightmare

As the U.S. experiences its first total solar eclipse since 1979, the impending traffic situations are already cropping up, most notably in Oregon.

Starting on Wednesday, traffic back-ups occured in Central Oregon on Highways 26 and 96, with traffic stretching for nearly 30 miles on Highway 26, near the Ochoco Reservoir. The traffic is due to people staking spots to catch a climpse of the event.

Facebook reportedly axes internal ‘conservative-leaning’ chatroom which turned racist, sexist

fb anon

Facebook was walking on incredibly thin ice late last year after allegations that the company's poor efforts to police fake news stories helped influence the US presidential election. Now, a report from the Wall Street Journal suggests that Facebook is taking a hard line against anything resembling racist or sexist banter — at least when it comes to its employees.

Apple Watch 3 is in the ‘final test phase’ ahead of upcoming launch

Apple Watch 3 Release

The Apple Watch has improved by leaps and bounds since its release a tad more than two years ago. Though Apple's wearable was released alongside an avalanche of hype and excitement, there's no denying that the first iteration of the device was hampered by a clunky UI and some frustrating performance problems. Apple would ultimately fix these issues when it released the Apple Watch Series 2 about 18 months later and graced it with a more powerful processor, a more user friendly version of watchOS, and GPS functionality.

Comment: An Apple Watch with LTE has the potential to be a true iPhone replacement

I’ve always been very skeptical when it comes to Apple Watch. From the start I wasn’t necessarily convinced that I had a need for the device. Its price tag and early user interface bugs quickly wore thin on me and I ultimately found myself going weeks at a time without wearing it or even charging. As I wrote last year, however, watchOS 3 and Apple Watch Series 2 quickly changed my opinion and made Apple’s wearable an integral part of my lifestyle.

When people started calling on Apple to add LTE functionality to the Apple Watch, however, I was puzzled. Why does a wearable that’s always connected to the iPhone need LTE?

The more I’ve thought about it, though, the more I see the other side of the argument. The perfect Apple Watch is one that has no dependancy on the iPhone, but rather is fully functional wherever you go.

Comcast’s surprisingly good wireless plans now available nationwide

Comcast Xfinity Mobile review vs Verizon

Normally, Comcast internet plans aren't the kind of thing we wax lyrical about. But Comcast's brand-new Xfinity Mobile plans -- which run on Verizon's excellent network -- are actually worth considering. You get unlimited data for $45 per month, substantially less than Verizon's own $80-per-month Unlimited plan (for one user, at least).

Now, there are some catches, most notably that you have to be a Comcast home internet customer to be eligible. But if you're already suckling on the teat of the beast and you're not tied into a huge family plan with an existing wireless provider, Xfinity Mobile is worth a look.

Hands-on: Samsung T5 external SSD – a worthy, faster follow-up to the T3 [Video]

Samsung just released the follow-up to its T3 line of portable, external SSDs. Sticking with the same nomenclature of the previous T1 and T3 drives, Samsung’s new T5 external SSDs include USB 3.1 Gen 2 support, making it the fastest T-series drive yet. With an included USB-C to USB-C cable, the T5 makes a great companion for recent MacBooks or MacBook Pros, or even the newest iMac models.

If you edit videos, photos, or just need a small and compact external storage solution, then Samsung’s diminutive T5 drive may be a worthy solution. It provides speeds that are normally associated with internal SATA SSDs in a compact, external form factor. Have a look at our hands-on video walkthrough inside for more details. more…
