Californians urged to save energy during solar eclipse

Californians have been asked to save energy during next month's eagerly-anticipated solar eclipse to help reduce the strain on the state's solar power resources.

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) has set up the CalEclipse.org website, where Californians are urged to “do your thing for the sun,” by reducing energy usage from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. PT during the Aug. 21 solar eclipse.

It doesn't seem like an interesting thing to crush, but paper does some very weird things when subjected to immense pressure, and as the highly popular YouTube stars of the Hydraulic Press Channel discovered, it can turn downright violent.

Apple today has announced that it is expanding the tester limits in its TestFlight program. Whereas developers were previously limited to inviting 2,000 users to beta test an application, they can now invite up to 10,000 external testers.

The Google Play services app, a back-end Android app that makes the Google magic happen on your phone, has broken five billion downloads on the Google Play Store. That's a record and a major milestone for Google's third-party app store, so it's only fitting that it's broken by a Google-owned app that most people probably haven't heard of.

Insane highway heist netted $590,000 in iPhones and lifelong fame

Highway iPhone robbery in Romania

Police have arrested a group of Romanian stunt thieves/up-and-coming Oceans scriptwriters in a hideout in the Netherlands. Dutch police found $590,000 worth of iPhones that they claim were stolen off the back of a moving truck while it was going down a highway.

The iPhone robbery wasn't a one-off, either. Stealing products from the back of a vehicle in motion is popular enough that it's known as the "Romanian method," and the gang arrested by Dutch police was responsible for 17 heists all by itself.
