Niantic just made a major change to stop Pokemon Go cheaters

Pokemon Go: Sniping, spoofing

Last month, Pokemon Go developer Niantic confirmed that it was "working to add functionality to stop spoofing" in the game, which allows cheaters to fake their location to catch Pokemon anywhere in the world. Over the weekend, Niantic appeared to begin testing that functionality, as players were finding themselves "soft banned" (temporary unable to play) when they teleport across the map.

T-Mobile quietly killed one of its longest-running promos

T-Mobile Free Data for Life

Back in 2013, T-Mobile started a promo to give cellular iPads a lifetime of free service. Buy an LTE iPad from T-Mobile, and the network would give you 200MB of data per month for as long as you had the tablet.

But either that promo's working too well or not at all, because T-Mobile has quietly updated the deal to reflect that new iPad purchases don't qualify.

Apple may soon become the world’s first trillion-dollar company

Apple Stock

Buoyed by the forthcoming release of the iPhone 8, shares of Apple have been on an absolute rampage lately. Over the past few months, Apple shares have skyrocketed by nearly 50%. In fact, Apple shares earlier today reached a brand new all-time high, eclipsing the $153.50 threshold for the first time in company history. In the process, Apple's market cap surpassed $800 billion for the first time.

One of the reasons why Apple shares jumped up today --  iPhone 8 rumors aside -- is because Berkshire Hathaway (of Warren Buffet fame) more than doubled its investment in Apple over the past few months. During the last quarter alone, Berkshire Hathaway's holdings in Apple increased from $7.1 billion to $19.2 billion. And seeing as how Buffet is largely regarded as the most successful investor in history, Buffet gracing Apple shares with his blessing goes a long ways towards convincing other investors that Apple has plenty of room for growth ahead.

‘Alien: Covenant’ review roundup: Building on the best parts of ‘Prometheus’

Alien: Covenant Review Roundup

In spite of its numerous flaws, Prometheus ended up being both a critical and financial success for director Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox. Moviegoers understandably nitpicked the film for its head-scratching plot and the inscrutable decisions made by the main characters, but many Alien fans were simply excited to see the universe that Scott started building four decades ago from a new angle.

Now, five years later, Alien: Covenant is going to take us one step closer to the original Alien by jumping fifteen years into the future. But does Covenant improve on the issues in Prometheus or does it follow in its footsteps, for better or worse? We're going to round up some of the early reviews to find out.

New Amazon Echo 2017

Last week, a grainy photo of a 1990s Skymall teleconference device started doing the rounds. According to the site that leaked it, the thing is actually what Amazon's touchscreen Echo product will look like.

Unfortunately, the Wall Street Journal is now saying that it wasn't some kind of blurry Friday nightmare: the touchscreen Echo is real, and it's launching tomorrow.

Apple is making a Siri speaker competitor for the Amazon Echos and Google Homes of the world, and the iOS-based product might be unveiled as soon as this month.
