Tim Cook will spend 0.39% of Apple’s cash to keep Donald Trump happy

Tim Cook interview

Previously, Apple has hinted that it might explore the possibility of building iPhones in the US. Trump has explored the possibility of a border adjustment tax, which would heavily penalize companies that manufacture overseas, but no concrete plans have been put forward.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg plans to “kill” the smartphone with the help of virtual reality, and Facebook might not be the only company looking to find a way to compete against the iPhone-Android duopoly. Microsoft is still working on phones, Satya Nadella confirmed in an interview. It’s just that they might not look like what you'd expect from your regular iPhone “killer.”

Final Cut Pro X: How to track objects using animated text callouts [Video]

If you’d like to add tracked text to Final Cut Pro X, there are many ways to go about doing so. For instance, I used to faux-track objects manually by using keyframes. Needless to say that was quite the tedious endeavor.

Tracking text is easier and much more accurate when using a plugin like MotionVFX’s mCallouts, which is powered by the excellent Mocha Tracking Technology from Imagineer Systems.

There are several packages in the mCallouts series, but each of them contain a heaping helping of callout styles that you can use to add tracked text to the objects in your Final Cut Pro X projects. In this brief hands-on video walkthrough, I’ll show you just how easy it is. more…

Google isn’t afraid of Microsoft’s Chromebook clone, for obvious reasons

microsoft surface laptop

Google's Chrome OS and Chromebook computers are a bit hit among students from high school through college, thanks in no small part to their extreme affordability, ease of use, and overall simplicity. Yesterday, Microsoft announced Windows 10 S, a stripped-down version of its ubiquitous operating system designed with students in mind, along with the sleek, lightweight Surface Laptop. With Microsoft making such an obvious attempt to impose on the Chromebook market, you might expect Google to be on the defensive. Well, they're not, and in an interview with Business Insider, one Google executive even boasted that Microsoft's announcements were "validation."

Facebook is hiring 3,000 more people to watch its most disturbing videos

facebook jobs

Facebook is the largest social network on the planet and the sheer volume of posts, photos, and videos means that, inevitably, some really horrible stuff is going to make it past the company's watchful eye. That being said, the number of really, really gruesome videos that have popped up on the site recently — and that have remained viewable for hours and in some cases days — is clearly unacceptable to both the general public and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. In a lengthy blog post today, Zuckerberg expressed his displeasure with the trend and announced that he's going to pay 3,000 more people to constantly sift through both live and recorded videos in search of the worst of the worst.
