Tesla’s masterplan to make the Model 3 a success: keep it simple

Model 3 Release

Last week, Tesla released a product sheet which listed out and confirmed a number of key details surrounding the upcoming Model 3. For example, we learned that the Model 3 will sport a a 0-60 MPH time of 5.6 seconds and that the entry-level $35,000 model will sport a range of 215 miles on a single charge. But somewhat buried at the bottom of the product sheet was another interesting tidbit, namely that the selection of Model 3 configurations would be less than 100. In stark contrast, the number of configurations available on the Model S is higher than 1,500.

Hands-on: Elgato HD60 S – a solid video capture and live streaming companion [Video]

Working with video takes up a significant portion of my day-to-day schedule, and much of that is taken via a mirrorless camera like the Panasonic GH5. Yet, from time to time I find it necessary to capture direct feed video straight from source. In these situations, I’ve enjoyed using Elgato’s Game Capture HD60 S.

While the name ‘Game Capture’ may lead one to believe that the device is only relevant for gamers, it’s actually useful in a lot of different situations that may benefit Mac users. As an example, I used the Game Capture HD60 to capture UEFI BIOS footage for my Hackintosh builds, routing output straight from the video card.

But the Game Capture line of hardware is more than just a capture device; it can also be used to help facilitate live streams via Twitch, YouTube, and other services. Have a look at our hands-on unboxing and walkthrough of the $180 Game Capture HD60 S for more details. more…

Every PS4, PS3 and PS Vita game you can download for free in June

PS4 free games

E3 2017 is right around the corner, which means that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are preparing to show off all of the new games, hardware and updates they have prepared for the coming months. But while Microsoft has Project Scorpio lined up and Nintendo is still riding the Switch wave, Sony doesn't have a comparable announcement for the big show. Thankfully, that's not going to stop the company from releasing free PS4, PS3 and Vita games to PS Plus subscribers next month.

Galaxy S8 users will be spared the Bixby assistant for another month

Galaxy S8 Bixby

After dusting itself off following the Note 7 fiasco of 2016, Samsung this year came back strong with the release of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. Sporting a new infinity display along with some solid hardware upgrades, Samsung's premium 2017 smartphone lineup has been well received by both reviewers and consumers. In fact, after unveiling the device this past April, Samsung noted that pre-orders for the S8 in particular were 30% higher than what Samsung saw last year with the S7.

Andy Rubin’s new company already got screwed by Apple

Essential Smartphone vs Apple

Andy Rubin, the former Googler who founded Android, is no stranger to fighting with Apple. After all, he and his mobile platform have been locked in an unending battle with the iPhone for the last ten years. But even though his new company doesn't have much to do with mobile operating systems, it's already lost out because of Apple.

During a talk yesterday evening, Rubin confirmed that Essential, his new company, lost out on a $100 million investment because of a perceived conflict with Apple. For a company that's technically a startup, a $100 million investment is nothing to laugh at.

Essential is trying to build Android for the smart home

Andy Rubin’s appearance at the Code Conference last night went a ways toward answering some lingering questions about his new company, Essential. But the conversation primarily centered around the startup’s upcoming phone — Rubin left the dialogue around the company’s take on a smart phone hub, Home, intentionally vague. But the CEO did take the opportunity to… Read More
