You can finally feel good about buying Apple’s utterly hideous iPhone battery case

product red apple

Apple's Smart Battery Case for iPhone is gross. It's ugly, and there's really no getting around that. Before today, buying one should have come with a sense of shame and regret, but now that there's a Product (RED) version, at least you can pick one up and know that you're doing some good for the world, even if it's at the expense of good taste.

Apple apologizes for iCloud calendar invite spam, actively ‘identifying and blocking’ senders

Some Apple users have been plagued with iCloud calendar invite spam in recent weeks, with calendar periods being blocked up with unsolicited events from anonymous senders (usually with Chinese names). It is thought that the spammers are mass targeting any iCloud email account it can find on the web, rather than targeting specific users.

Apple has now acknowledged the issue in a statement to iMore, starting with an apology to anyone who has received iCloud calendar spam. The company says it is actively “identifying and blocking suspicious senders” to try and stem the arrival of the junk messages.

Apple shares new trailer for Apple Music exclusive documentary ‘808’, releasing Dec. 9th

Ahead of the Apple Music exclusive stream of the documentary ‘808’ set for Dec. 9, Apple has tweeted a new trailer for the film that focuses on Roland’s iconic TR-808 drum machine. ‘808’ was originally shown at the 2015 SXSW Film Festival and is just shy of 7/10 stars on IMDb as of this writing. Atlantic Records is offering the soundtrack album now and looks to be selling apparel in the near future. The tracklist includes a wide variety of genres and artists ranging from Hip Hop Be Bop (Don’t Stop) by Man Parrish, Paul Revere by the Beastie Boys, to Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz.

This documentary effort by Apple is of course in line with their work to blend the liberal arts and technology, and also seems to be on message with respecting and celebrating the past, such as their new hardbound book covering 20 years of Apple’s design history. For those interested in music history there is a video from the YouTube channel RetroSound dedicated to the famous drum beats made possible with the Roland TR-808. They even include captions detailing what songs the beats come from.

As we previously covered, you can watch the documentary with an Apple Music subscription next Friday and it will also be available to rent or buy from iTunes on December 19. The soundtrack is available now on Apple Music and iTunes.

For just $18, you can make any headphones or powered speaker wireless

Bluetooth Adapter

Don't fight the future. 3.5mm analog audio jacks are going away. It's happening. Everyone freaked out when Apple dumped the 3.5mm audio jack on its new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, but other vendors are already opting to lose this antiquated single-use port in favor of modern digital options like USB-C and Lightning. Of course, none of this means you have to ditch your favorite headphones. Instead, pick up an Mpow Streambot Bluetooth Adapter on Amazon and turn your current headphones into wireless headphones. They also work with any powered speaker, or in your car to add Bluetooth to older car models.

Apple fixes the MacBook’s weird, speaker-destroying bug

macbook speakers not working

Apple's Boot Camp makes it easy for MacBooks to run the Windows operating system, but a recent sound bug had been causing some serious headaches for those who like to dual boot. Now, a Boot Camp driver update has fixed the strange bug, AppleInsider reports.

The odd glitch caused loud popping sounds for Boot Camp users while using Windows on their MacBooks. The peculiar sound persisted regardless of the actual volume settings of the computer, and some users claimed that the annoying pop was physically damaging the speakers in their computers.
